What Is Nucca

Why Consider NUCCA in Edmonton, AB

NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) is a form of chiropractic care that uses a specific procedure focused on correcting a small misalignment of the neck. This subtle correction ultimately restores optimal balance to the entire spinal column.

This gentle, non-invasive technique was developed more than 55 years ago to create a radical new way of healing that can help restore body balance and health. The focus of the NUCCA work is the relationship between the upper cervical spine (neck) and its influence on spinal alignment and thus influencing posture, chronic pain, migraines, headaches, concussion, facial pain, TMJ dysfunction, pain and tingling down the arms or legs and more.

How Upper Cervical Care Works

Our office uses the National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association (NUCCA) method of treatment. This method of chiropractic treatment is based on three basic principles:
1) Correcting the alignment of the spine.
2) Stabilizing the spine’s alignment.
3) Educating patients as to how to maintain proper spinal alignment.
The NUCCA method of treatment works with the body’s ability to heal itself. Once a misalignment has been diagnosed, a slight pressure will be applied to the top of your neck to gently guide the top vertebra back into alignment. There is no twisting, popping, or cracking with this type of chiropractic treatment. At set intervals in the course of treatment, you will need to return to the office to have your alignment assessed and realigned as necessary. With the top most vertebra in its proper place, the rest of your spine will slowly self correct over a period of a couple of weeks.

It takes a further two to four weeks for the spine to stabilize in this position. You are stabilized when the muscles holding your spine in place have been straightened to comfortably hold your new alignment while you go about normal activities.
Diagnosis of any misalignment is done in two stages. First, we assess the relationship between hips, shoulders and head using a precise measuring device. Secondly, if any one of these three areas is out of alignment, a specific set of x-rays is taken.

We use these x-rays to understand the nature of your misalignment and determine the best corrective treatment.
Several measurements are taken after the initial correction to confirm structural improvements of the spine.

Once these are obtained, post imaging is utilized to further assess, verify, and improve upon the initial biomechanics used to correct your misalignment.

Each of our bodies are different. NUCCA is one of the only chiropractic techniques that utilizes post-adjustment imaging to confirm results. But most importantly, it helps us to maximize the reduction of the misalignment, which puts your body in the best possible state to heal.
We encourage you to learn more about the NUCCA method, so please feel free to ask one of our doctors about NUCCA and how it may help to alleviate your symptoms.
